Thomson Reuters, the world’s leading source of intelligent information for businesses and professionals, today announced that the Harvard Law School Library has adopted its comprehensive online legal service Westlaw Japan.
Harvard Law School, the oldest continually-operating law school in the United States and home to the largest academic law library in the world, will use the online database service of Japanese law and cases for its East Asian legal studies.
Westlaw Japan provides Harvard Law School with a comprehensive and timely online resource built specifically for the Japanese legal market. Written entirely in Japanese, students and faculty will benefit from having access to more than 230,000 cases, in excess of 20,000 statutory laws and over 1,000 draft bills. With access to an impressive number of current and historical cases and statutes, as well as indexes to journal articles and newspapers, the database is an invaluable resource for anyone studying or practicing Japanese law.
“Westlaw Japan is a valuable addition to Harvard’s law library,” said Shozo Uchida, president and representative director of Westlaw Japan. “Not only is it a comprehensive resource on Japanese law, it also gives students and faculty access to the same information used every day by practicing lawyers in some of the leading corporations and law firms as well as government institutions in Japan.”
Westlaw Japan has been meeting the needs of the legal industry since 2006 and has been widely adopted by nearly 3,000 law firms, corporations, universities, and government offices domestically in Japan as well as abroad. In addition to Harvard Law School, Westlaw Japan’s foreign customers include; the University of Washington in the U.S., Zhejiang University, East China University of Politics and law, Xiamen University, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law in China, Korea’s Fair Trade Commission, Korea Unversity, and the law firm, Lee & Ko.
Westlaw Japan brings together Thomson Reuters Westlaw and Japan’s leading legal publisher, Shinnippon-Hoki, to provide online access to Japanese cases and legislation with versioning, law books and journals by local experts, government policy information, and real-time news provided by Thomson Reuters and Jiji Press.
Westlaw Japan https://www.westlawjapan.com/english/ is a joint venture established by equal investment by Thomson Reuters and Shin-Nippon Hoki Shuppan K.K. (Headquarters in Nagoya). Westlaw Japan was developed by combining Shin-Nippon Hoki’s Japanese legal content including legislation, cases, books and journals, with Thomson Reuters’ sophisticated online technology.
